E-Bike Appian Way: Aqueducts and Cecilia Metella Mausoleum

Ride the ancient Regina Viarum in maximum comfort and immerse yourself in a unique blend of history and nature on a customized E-Bike adventure. Enjoy zero city traffic and an innovative Virtual Reality journey back in time at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.

Start your Roman adventure directly from the historic Appian Way, saving precious time. Thanks to this strategic starting point, you’ll optimize your tour duration, skipping the E-Bike stretch from the center of Rome (both ways). This means fewer total kilometers, less fatigue, and safer roads, allowing you to focus on history and nature.

After picking up your E-Bike, a local expert will guide you along the millennial basalt road (basoli), framed by maritime pines and ancient ruins. Your first stop: the Aqueducts Park (Parco degli Acquedotti), where the imposing Claudio Aqueduct dominates the landscape—a true masterpiece of Roman engineering.

The climax of the tour awaits at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the symbolic monument of the Appian Way. Here, you’ll wear a VR viewer for an included Virtual Reality experience, revealing the Mausoleum and the Castle of the Caetani as they appeared 2,000 years ago, offering an unparalleled historical perspective.

Finally, cycle through the quiet Roman Countryside (Campagna Romana), savoring the breathtaking contrast between the city’s frenzy and the tranquility of historical parks. An adventure that combines physical exercise, history, and technology, all optimized for your maximum comfort.

Important information

Trail: 90% of the itinerary takes place on the ancient Roman paving stones of the Appian Way (Appia Antica), in a limited traffic zone (access restricted to residents only). Only two short road crossings are planned: one to enter the Aqueducts Park (Parco degli Acquedotti) and one between Tor Fiscale and the Caffarella Park (Parco della Caffarella).

Itinerary Variations: In the event of celebrations, official events, or public demonstrations, the operator reserves the right to substitute one or more itinerary highlights to ensure the safety of the group.

● Riding Experience: A basic-intermediate level of cycling experience is mandatory.

● Test and Denial: A short assessment test will be carried out before departure. The guide has the absolute right to deny participation (without refund) to any guest deemed unsuitable due to insufficient riding skills or precarious physical/mental conditions.

● Infants: Infants and babies (up to 20kg / 44lbs) travel free using a provided child seat.

● Children: Children (under 139cm / 4ft 7in in height) must use a bike extension (tag-along/trailer).

● E-Bike Minimum Age: The minimum age to operate one's own E-Bike is 12 years.
