Around and cultural antigua from Antigua Guatemala

Antigua Guatemala was once the third largest city of Spanish Colonial America. For 200 years the capital of Guatemala, it is today a tranquil and beautifully restored colonial city. Explore the cobbled streets that wind around the city's majestic churches and monasteries. This tour also invites you to visit the villages that surround Antigua, such as Ciudad Vieja, San Felipe de Jesus, with its world-renowned Gothic church, and San Antoni Aguas Calientes known for its colourful handmade industries.

The tour of Antigua lasts three and a half hours. Begin by visiting Central Park, surrounded by the Palace of the Captain Generals, the City Hall, the church of San Jose and more. Here you will see the famous Mermaid's fountain, built by the Count of Gomera. Continue to the Cathedral of San Jose, erected between the 16th and 17th centuries in an elaborate baroque style. Next is the Arch of Santa Catalina, an institution established in 1609. When the arch was completed it connected the convent with the gardens on the other side of the street. Wrap the tour up with a trip to La Merced Church; a history-packed day!
